The Mad Catz C.T.R.L.i is a Bluetooth MFi iPhone and iPad game controller produced by Mad Catz.

As per the Extended layout specifications, the C.T.R.L.i features 4 face buttons (ABXY), a circular d-pad, left and right shoulder buttons, left and right triggers, 2 analog sticks, and a pause button. The face buttons, shoulder buttons, triggers, analog sticks, and d-pad are all pressure sensitive.

The C.T.R.L.i connects to the iPhone and iPad via Bluetooth. Despite this, the C.T.R.L.i is only compatible with iOS devices which include a Lightning connector, due to Apple’s policies.

An optional iPhone grip is included. If screwed to the back of the C.T.R.L.i, it can secure the iPhone to the controller itself. The grip is not compatible with the iPad or iPad Mini, and holds the iPhone 6 at an off-angle.

The C.T.R.L.i is available in a full range of black, red, white, blue, and orange color options.

Mad Catz has a long history as a third-party peripheral manufacturer. For most of the ’80s and ’90s, they were infamous for selling cheaper-than-first-party controllers for the major consoles.

Starting in the early 2000s, Mad Catz made a conscious effort to significantly improve the quality of their products. This included buying high-end joystick maker Saitek, UK based peripheral maker Joytech, and several other well-regarded brands. These efforts have paid off, as many Mad Catz products are now regarded as top-tier choices.

The Mad Catz C.T.R.L.i was revealed to the world at Mobile World Congress 2014. It is based on the very well regarded Mad Catz Pro and MOJO android controllers, with modifications to make it compliant with Apple’s MFi standard. A version for Android, Mac, and PC is available for sale.
